PSA

It looks innocent enough, doesn't it?

I left my kids home to watch this DVD while I went to pick up Tom from school.  Meg has been working on a sign language badge for American Heritage Girls, so I got a couple of videos at the library.

Well, if they hadn't been in such shock, they'd probably know how to sign condom, boobs, and $#it, now!  Fortunately, they knew enough to turn it off.

I don't know what's worse:  the exposure to that stuff, or the fact that neither one asked me what a condom is.

Daybook

MY DAYBOOK

Outside my window...
Cloudy and cool!  A change from the hot, sunny weather we've had for months.  After a couple of days of heavy rain, this is rather nice.

I am thinking...
about this post. I started my novena to St. Therese with a very self-serving prayer, but as always, when I ask for something very specific, I feel as if I am denying God the opportunity to give me what I "need" rather than what I "want".  Yes, I still selfishly ask for that one intention, but I also ask for the grace to accept God's will as joyfully as St. Therese did.

I am thankful for...
My husband and my children.  A 10th grader at Madden's small school killed himself this weekend, and the entire community is devastated.  I hope my kids know that they can always come to me with their problems and that we'll find a way to solve them together with God's grace.

May he rest in peace.

From the learning rooms...
We're struggling with finding the energy to do our work.  Spending so much time in the car, we're spent when we get home.  All we want to do is spend time with our geography studies.  The kids are enjoying the study of Ancient Egypt and the books we're reading.

From the kitchen...
This week in the kitchen may be an adventure since I did a pretty brief shopping trip on Saturday.

Pretty much the same as last week.  No menus and no plans.  It's like Chopped all week!  I'll just pick a few ingredients and throw them together.

I am wearing...
brown capris and a white tee.  I just took off my lime green sweater because it's warming up.

I am creating...
fingerless mitts for Meg.  She wants them (just one, really) for halloween.  I made one in just a day and a half, without a pattern.  On the one hand (lol) it's awesome, and on the other hand it looks a bit like a cast!  A black, sparkly one, but a cast nonetheless!

I am going...
crazy trying to recruit more leaders for American Heritage Girls!  The troop is growing, and it's wonderful, but we need more leaders and no one seems to want that responsibility.

I am reading...
Outlander, the next book in the series by Diana Gabaldon.  Another page turner.

I am hearing...
Children bickering about how best to deconstruct our very old Lil Tikes Crazy Coupe and make a convertible out of it.

Around the house...
Clutter.  Ugh.  Time for fall housecleaning. 15 minutes at a time because that's all I have.

(hmmm, none of that happened this week.  We'll try again.)

One of my favorite things...

Fall weather before it gets too cold!

A few plans for the rest of the week:
3 chiropractic visits this week to hurry up and correct my twisted neck!

St. Therese

It begins today!

The novena to my patroness and dear friend, St. Therese, starts today in preparation for her feast on October 1.

This year, I have very special requests for her.  Won't you join me in this novena?

Wordless Wednesday

Just a few words....

This was so fun to make, learning to make a custom sweater.  It was knit from the top down meaning that there was no sewing up of pieces at the end.  I love that!

I'd like to make another sweater for someone else using these skills.  It was a really fast knit.

Daybook

MY DAYBOOK

Outside my window...

Darkness. It's still quiet.  Most of the cars are still at home at this hour of 5:48 a.m.

I am thinking...

about Christmas presents already.  Who wants a handknit gift?

I am thankful for...
Having a fun, family weekend.  We went to a school play Friday; Football game Saturday; and spent the afternoon with our college kids yesterday.  We were celebrating their birthdays---KT turned 21 and Brendan (Hitch) will be 19 on Tuesday.  It was fun to be together, but it was far too short. It made me sad to leave them.

From the learning rooms...
We've gone through Peter Pan in the car, and now we're on to Little Women.  I think I may be in the minority, but I'm not a Peter Pan fan.  I don't see his charm.  Is he just the adorable bad boy that everyone loves in spite of his flaws?  Eh.  Didn't love it.

Little Women, however, I love, and will enjoy this story even though some of the readers are awful.

Other than that, we're still having a pretty good time with our geography studies.

From the kitchen...
This week in the kitchen may be an adventure since I did a pretty brief shopping trip on Saturday.  Mostly I bought birthday candles and sugar!  There are plenty of veggies, so we'll see how much I can create without having to go back to the store!

I am wearing...
khaki shorts and a purple tee.  It's a little cool this morning, but I'm anticipating more summer temps today.

I need to come up with a new, mindless car project quickly.  Double pointed needles are not my favorite choice for the car; a little too complicated.  I want mindless stockinette on my circulars!

BTW, I would never use straight needles in the car because they're too long and dangerous.  I use circulars all the time, anyway, because they hurt my hands less, but they're safer in the car.  And I put them down with the points away from me, just in case!

I am going...
to the doctor this week for a checkup and the results of my bloodwork.  Keeping my fingers crossed for good answers---good solutions, actually.

I am reading...
Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon.  A real page-turner now that I'm into it.  It's a bit racy (and that's putting it mildly), if you're a sensitive reader, but it's a great story---and the s** is all the married kind!  I hear there are 7 volumes and number 8 is in the works!  Yikes!

I am hearing...
Dh in the kitchen, and the Catholic Weekend Podcast while I type.

Around the house...
Clutter.  Ugh.  Time for fall housecleaning. 15 minutes at a time because that's all I have.

One of my favorite things...

All my children around where we can talk and laugh.

A few plans for the rest of the week:  Choir, AHG, doctor, chiropractor (twice?)
