Winter Schooling

Monday school-time. It's Monday, as if that weren't enough, and it's cold. No one wants to work and everyone wants to snuggle.

So we're doing schoolwork the Japanese way. We have a little heater under the table, and we are keeping the heat in with blankets.

It's a giant fort, too!

Look who else likes it. :-)

  1. Ha! That's a great idea. Isn't that called a kotatsu? I remember reading about one once in a novel and thinking it was a great idea. I think you're supposed to be sitting on the floor though. I wonder how the "elderly" manage that in Japan? I wouldn't be able to get up!

    1. As we are not in Japan we don't have a low table, so I'm making do with a standard, Western-style.
;-) As for the elderly, I expect that those who still eat the traditional diet and sit on the floor all the time, have no problem with it. I'm starting to sit on the floor more often so that I don't lose all my mobility as I age. (Move Your DNA by Katy Bowman---or just read her blog. :-)

  2. Wow. You are a much more flexible homeschool Mamma than I am. I would probably call "distraction" and "too messy" and the dreaded "you haven't even finished Math yet!" And it would be dead in the water. Hats off to you, best Camping buddy ever!

    1. I guess I should have pointed out that we still did schoolwork ON the table, not under. Just our feet were tucked cozily under the blankets. It would be far too hot underneath! We were very productive.
