November Daybook

FOR TODAY...
Outside my window...
It's dark and chilly.  Fall is definitely here, now.  It's getting colder at night and we might actually turn the heat on soon.

I am thinking...
about 2 different friends who have lost beloved parents this past weekend.  On the one hand, there's never a good time to lose a loved one, but what better time than near the Feast of All Souls when so many people are praying extra hard for the dead?

... and about Christmas.  Can I get it all done before Advent, so as to enjoy the season?

I am thankful for...
my Catholic faith.  I think I say that a lot, but it keeps me grounded.  We don't have a big celebration for every liturgical event on the calendar, or even a small celebration, but I'm aware of them and they give shape and dimension to the year, and keep drawing me back to where I belong.

From the learning rooms kitchen table...
We've been so busy with things like play rehearsals that we're stuck in a rut of just doing the necessities every day.

From the kitchen...
Halloween candy.  I'm thinking it's time to find recipes, or make them up, to get rid of this candy a little faster.  We gave away at least half, but there is still too much for my taste!

Who has recipes that use candy?

I am wearing...
Sweats.  In hopes of a workout in a few minutes.

I am creating...
Sweaters, socks, hats.  Still. (Still).

I am going...
Camping this weekend with the American Heritage Girls where the lows are going to be 27 overnight, and the highs only 55.  Brrrrrr.

I am not excited. I know it will be fun, but seriously, why couldn't we have done this 2 weeks ago when it was unseasonably warm?

I am reading...
Voyager.  The 3rd volume in the Outlander series.  What a love story! The Fiery Cross:  The 5th volume in the Outlander series!  A Breath of Snow and Ashes: The 6th volume in the Outlander series.  (one more after this!)
An Echo in the Bone.  The last one, until the next one comes out.

I am hoping and praying...
for healing for lots of people with cancer, especially this little boy.

And for the souls of all the faithful departed this month.

I am hearing...
Almost complete silence.  Dh and Pete have left already for early football (the LAST one, ever!) and everyone else is still asleep.  Meg is the only one making noise as she has been dreaming for a while.

I'm also hearing some noise from the garage.  It must be one of the rabbits moving things around in her hutch.  They've been separated now because they fight and one has an injured nose.  Plus, she's quite a bit smaller than the other and I don't know if that's because the other eats more of the food.

Around the house...
Working on that decluttering.  Not very diligently, but getting a little done every day so some of those cluttered areas are getting better.

One of my favorite things...
A cozy fire and a good book or movie.  I'm going to be thinking about that all weekend.  Sunday afternoon my fireplace and comfy chair have a date!

few plans for the rest of the week
Choir, AHG, reading, knitting. Packing and CAMPING!  Still trying to figure out how to do all the driving that needs to be done on Friday and still get to the campground to set up my tent before dark!

  1. Oh, Jamie and Claire!
I admit to devouring the Outlander series as well. I haven't read An Echo in the Bone yet... Not sure if I have the time to read it. My MIL turned me on to the series and since she had them all I read all the way up to the one before Fiery Cross in just a couple weeks. (she complained at the time that it wasn't fair that I didn't have to wait, like she did, for the next one to be written!) I've said before I'm not sure what we ate for a whole week! Not in a position right now to enjoy that kind of immersion!

You have six (I see from your sidebar) and since I only have 5. maybe I don't have as good of an excuse as I thought. ;)

Good luck with the freezing cold camping...I'm pushing for my husband to consider an RV but so far it's a no go.

  2. It has been nice not having to wait between books, I'll tell you, but I will have to wait a couple of years for the next one! And yes, I have 6, but 2 are in college and the youngest is 8. It's a long way from what things were like 8 years ago!

  3. True. In eight years my kids will be 20, 17, 12, 10, and 8 (plus whoever comes along in between)! That will be a big difference.
