Don't Ask Me Why

This is Gus.

Gus is a dog, not a rat.

His name was already Gus and we lengthened it to Augustine.

Gus is half Pug, half Highland Terrier, or a Pugland.

Gus is all adorable!

But seriously, he's only 8 weeks old and ridiculously small.  It's been about 24 years since we had a dog this age!  The children are all exhausted this a.m. from excitement and lack of sleep because he whimpered and barked a lot during the night.   They're going to watch the Dog Whisperer on TV right now so they can learn how to train dogs.

You didn't ask, but I'll tell you why we got him:

I really don't know.
Unless it's because all kids need dogs and the younger 3 haven't really had that since our last one died 7 years ago.

And we're probably not having any babies, which is the same reason we got the puppy 25 years ago.

Any and all puppy advice is welcome!  Please leave a comment!

  1. Oh my. Just what you needed!

I agree kids need a dog, but it never quite works out that the kids are responsible for the dog. At least not in my house.

Crate train on a strict schedule is my advice. Unless he's already housebroken, and in that case, congratulations! Great Dogs Good Owners is a great training/care guide. It has a wonderful sample schedule which really helped us -- twice. If you want me to photograph the pages and send them to you, just say the word.

I see amazon has a used copy for $.13. For just over $4 with shipping it will be well worth the money.

  2. We are definitely believers in crate training after we saw the difference it made in our beagle all those years ago! We still need to get a crate for this one. I ordered that book and another by Cezar Millan for .75

Did you see the part where he's "8 weeks old"? Not housebroken or even paper trained! Yikes!

  3. I thought he was probably too little, but one can hope. Get that crate ASAP!

  4. PS Tagged you for a meme. Don't hate me. ;-)

Thanks for dropping by! I would love to hear from you. Have a beautiful day! :-)
